One For the Books!

FOR ALL MY FELLOW TEACHERS AND OLD PEOPLE IN GENERAL:
I'm standing in the help desk line at Barnes and Noble today. This 14-15 year old girl in front of me says to the bookseller: "I need a book called Louisa May." The guy actually typed it in!" Me, being the big mouth that I can be said " I think she means LITTLE WOMEN by Louisa May Alcott." She says Yeah, that's the one. The guy looks it up and goes back into the recesses of the library. Meanwhile, I pick up a copy that is on the table right next to the desk and say "I think this is what your looking for" The girl says (whines) "I'm not going to read this it's toooooooo long" Ms. Alcott is rolling in her grave.
A snarky ps. just wondering how much time this kid texts and plays Candy Crush online?
pss. The woman behind me in line asked me to help her find her kid's summer reading book.

A SLIGHTLY ASIAN 4TH OF JULY

WE DECIDED NOT TO GO TO THE BEACH FOR THE 4TH AS DREW HAD TO WORK THE NEXT DAY AND THE TRAFFIC ON THE WAY BACK IS HORRIBLE.  SO WE HAD TRADITIONAL JULY 4TH FOOD, INCLUDING KATIE'S MANDATORY APPLE PIE AND ICE CREAM.

WE HAD SPARKLERS AND SMOKE BOMBS AND "POP IT'S" FOR JIA IN THE BACKYARD AND THEN WE COULD SEE FIREWORKS ACROSS THE LAKE.  ANNA'S BOYFRIEND, VICTOR WAS VISITING SO THEY HELPED JIA WITH HER FUN. (KATIE STAYED IN THE HOUSE, I CANNOT GET A PICTURE OF HER EVEN THOUGH I WOULD LOVE TO, SHE REFUSES.

Tink to the rescue!

This is my little boy Tink. He is a 7 yr. old "blue" chihuahua. He has just been fully certified to become my emotional support dog. This means that he can go anywhere a person can go in any public establishment. He can also ride on airplanes for free. (Don't know where he will go, because I 'm not going anywhere.) Anyway, you need a note from a registered Psychologist/Psychiatrist, then he has to be registered, on the back of his tag the law about the service animal. I thought there were some people out there who may be interested in this. Tink has already visited the Post Office, Target, and Justice (a childrens store) all with great success. My best friend....

NONA and GRANDPA

Jia had some important things she wanted to sent to Nona and Grandpa. She wanted to do it herself.  She packed up her goodies, wrote a note and addressed her package.  Her sister helped her sister fill out the customs form, but Jia signed it as the sender.

Jia has been working on her "summer Bridge 3-4" workbook.  She has already finished the third grade portion and earned a reward, she is doing times tables and on Monday she starts working on how to use a dictionary.  She does all of this work in the morning before she even eats breakfast.  We also have family book time, where the whole family reads a book together.  We have started on "Because of Winn Dixie" by Kate DiCamillo.  It is an awesome book for 10 year olds, and the same one that we used for the big girls when they were 10.  Jia reminds us all when it is time to read. If you keep them learning in the summer they won't be behind, in fact, they will have a jump start in their next grade.

Try to Start Again

I have just let time get away from me.  I was also lazy and just posted things on Facebook although I realized I wanted to keep this blog going so I have a record of the kids and their activities.  I am still lazy, so I'm just going to start where I am right now.

Jia's Tenth Birthday shopping spree from Auntie Shelagh and Uncle Grant
she had her own "credit card" and felt very important  using it.
